Good Companions Club

Filed under: Local Clubs — Brian Baker @ 8:48 am

Originally known as the Over-60’s club it now bears the name more descriptive of its nature.

The club is a very “social” group with all income devoted to the basics of premises hire and having well organized, subsidised – sometimes free - social events.

It meets in the Village Centre at 2.30pm on the first and third Thursday of each month with formalities (mainly arranging outings), tea & cakes, a raffle, and a few houses of Bingo. It also runs a separate Bingo evening on the last Friday of every month.

Kathy Leeder is the Chairman, Vera Chilvers, Vice-Chair, and Gwen Woodrow , Secretary and Treasurer.

Future outings/events for 2007 have yet to be finalised, so watch this space!

New members are welcomed. Contact Kathy Leeder 01379 741669 or just come along!

Filed under: Christmas Fayre — Brian Baker @ 8:30 am

This Fayre is one of almost historic background as it probably dates back far beyond any other such surviving event in the village, remembered by villagers as children now in their 60/70’s.

It was originally conceived as a true village event with the objective of having a good Christmas attraction and either providing cash to be used to treat the children of the village by taking them all to Great Yarmouth – and giving them spending money – or the opportunity for village clubs and organisations to achieve some income.

You may notice that we have a new look to our web site for 2007. We will be adjusting the layout and possibly the design a bit more as we go on but the main improvements are:

  • Easier updates - the site can now be updated and content added more easily than before
  • Visitor Comments - at the bottom of each article you will see a comments link, you can register on the site then add comments about any article. (all comments will be moderated before publishing).
  • Community Articles - Most importantly, if you register you will be able to add articles directly to the web site. Again all submissions will be checked before going live.

So feel free to take part and if you have any suggestions just email me directly at sean@dickleburgh.com.
