Report From Parish Council Wind Turbines – Dickleburgh, Rushall, Langmere, & Pulham Say “N0”

Filed under: Village News, Parish Council, Wind Farm News — sean @ 9:34 am

The public meeting organised by the Dickleburgh & Rushall Parish Council exceeded all expectations with a turnout of an estimated 250+ residents filled the Village Centre and overflowed into the car park.

The top table was occupied by the Chairman of the Parish Council, Terry Clarkson who chaired the meeting, Parish Cllr,Vice Chairman, Trevor Leeder, SNDC Cllr. Martin Wilby, SNDC Planning Officer, Richard Cooper and author Terence Blacker.
Opening the meeting by greeting the massive turnout, the Chair read out letters of apology for non-attendance from local MP Richard Bacon, who unable to attend due to Parliamentary commitments, pledged his support against the Wind farm proposals.

Perhaps of greater significance was the non-attendance of SLP Energy & C.A. West & Son, the two major parties concerned with the original concept of the Wind farm, and the considerable financial benefits they would accrue there from. Both parties taking the view that their attendance would not enable them to make specific statements on the issues, as the project was still in an exploratory stage.

Understandably the meeting was not at all impressed with this stance.

The Chair passed the floor to Richard Cooper (SNDC Planning Officer) who explained the situation providing details of the processes the “Scoping Opinion”, planning permission for the erection of the “temporary “exploratory mast and final planning application for the Wind Farm would go through.

The first requirement is the “Scoping Opinion” process that requires the applicants to satisfy the local authority on a series of issues that impact not only on the Planning Department but virtually every department and therefore every committee on the SNDC – so ALL Councillors will be involved in the process as their input would be significant.

The meeting was then addressed by author and resident Terence Blacker who gave details of the implications of allowing such a project in the rural surroundings. The preparation of the site would involve serious logistical issues for the contractors required to set up the turbines. (more…)

Dickleburgh Summer Flower, Fruit & Vegetable Show

Filed under: The Village Society, Village News — sean @ 12:40 pm

Dickleburgh Village Society – Summer Flower, Fruit & Vegetable Show - Saturday 21st July 2007 In The Old Reading Room.

This sort of show calls for a lot of informed organization and a strong reliance on participants supporting it and the weather. They all came together this time but not without great concern to the organizer, Viki Hooper.

Dickleburgh Summer Flower, Fruit & Vegetable Show PhotoOn Wednesday she only had 38 entries with it appearing that the weather was seriously damaging potential show items. However, they started pouring in to finish up with 137 items spanning across majority of classes.

With 65 potential categories to be allocated suitable space preparation and “staging” started at 9.30 with entries arriving all the time up to the deadline of 11.00am in readiness for judging by Mr John Wild an RHS Judge who has judged the event since its inception four years ago.

At 2.30 members of the public and hopeful entrants were allowed in to view the findings of the judge each being clearly identified and to marvel at the standard of the items on display from exquisite plants, hardy vegetables, mouth watering cakes, tarts & pies and works of arts in terms of a range of handicrafts. In spite of the inclement weather the flowers on display were remarkable.

At 4.00pm the Chairman of the Village Society, John Taylor, thanked the Judge, Viki Hooper who organised and managed the whole show, everyone who gave their help, all the entrants for taking part, and finally presented the “Kepple Cup” a handsome three handled silver “vase” to Pat Leyshon, the winner of “The Best in Show” award who had scooped up the “Best” Certificate in three of the seven categories.
