RBLW Annual General Meeting – Wednesday 10th October In The Village Centre

Filed under: Local Clubs, Village News — sean @ 12:52 pm

This well attended meeting followed a slightly unusual format in not starting with the formal AGM business but after the “Silent Tribute” with a DVD presentation on a TV screen showing a range of some 80 photographs/pictures of the Dickleburgh Branch of the RBL dating back to it’s formation in 1923, many of the members seeing themselves in their younger years, some going back over fifty years with the current President Barbara Dade coming up in a picture of her as the Standard Bearer in 1948! The DVD had been prepared from the archives of the Village Society.

Down to business with the formal AGM opened by President, Barbara Dade, who thanked everyone in the branch for their continued support and congratulated the officers in maintaining such a well run, and as a result, well attended branch whilst many others were foundering and closing down. In turn, the Chairman, Joyce Hammond, Secretary, Jenny Burton and Treasurer, Terrie Fox followed with their reports and any appropriate correspondence. Election of officers was little more than a formality with current holders prepared to continue and no other volunteers: President; Barbara Dade, Vice President: Gertie Bloomfield, Chairman; Joyce Hammond, Vice Chairman: Kathy Leeder, Secretary: Jenny Burton, Treasurer: Terrie Fox, Standard Bearer: Joyce Hammond, Deputy Standard Bearer: Shirley Ebdell, Sick Visitor: Floss Biggs, Committee: Joan Neal, Marie Rook, Floss Biggs, Pat Bartram, Vera Chilvers, Josie Houghton. Dickleburgh & Rushall Village Centre Management Committee

Filed under: The Village Centre News — sean @ 12:47 pm

As its title shows, this committee is responsible to the Parish Council for the administration, financial management, maintenance and control of the Village Centre building and as such requires generating income to meet the running costs, maintenance and improvement of the facilities.
The Sports & Social Club uses part of the premises and accordingly provides some income, but this is in itself is inadequate so the Village Centre Management Committee is going to launch a programme of entertainment evenings in order to generate income to further improve facilities and encourage an increase their use.

In order to start to achieve this, the Hall itself has been redecorated and more is to be done, an application for a grant to refurbish the kitchen to a high standard has been submitted, failed double glazed windows are being replaced and the exterior is going to be redecorated.

To start off the programme of entertainment there is a Buffet Dance with “Hammy” the well known local vocalist and musician, on Saturday 24th November at a cost of £5.00 including a buffet and licensed bar, followed by “A Psychic Evening” on Friday 30th November at a cost of £5.00 including refreshments. More details will be published and advertised nearer the events. If readers have any constructive suggestions for the use of the facilities available in the Village Centre or forms of entertainment they would support please contact the Management Committee Secretary; Brian Baker 01379 741944.

Reminder that the Dickleburgh Luncheon Club is on November 8th at 12 Noon in the Village Centre – come along and enjoy the food!

Dickleburgh & Rushall Parish Council Meeting 4th October 2007 in the Village Centre at 7.00pm

Filed under: Parish Council — sean @ 12:36 pm

PRESENT:    Cllrs  Clarkson (In the Chair) Baker, Davy, Leeder, Logan and Roe. District Councillor Martin Wilby    Apologies were received from; Cllrs Hill and Mrs Holden and the clerk Barbara de Winter    .
The Minutes of the meeting held on September 13th were approved and signed.

MATTERS ARISING:

  • Dog bins –  are operational and are being emptied regularly.
  • With regard to the setting up a Community Responder service Councillor Logan was in the process of establishing contact with other interested parties.
  • On behalf of Cllr. Hill, Cllr Leeder informed the meeting that progress on the BMX was proceeding despite some acts of vandalism in the initial stages. Further, that it had been established that there was a requirement to use “Binding Sand” to complete the track, this at a cost of circa £30 ton with a need of some 80 tons. This expenditure would put the cost well over budget but as there was no alternative there was a unanimous decision it was necessary to proceed. Concern was raised about the potential use of quad bikes and similar on the track and placing of a sign “Pedal Cycling Only” was agreed.
  • Some discussion took place concerning the potential fencing-off of the Children’s Play Area with a sign “Under 12’s Only” and visits to other sites had been made by Cllrs Hill & Leeder. Further consideration to take place as to equipment and siting.
  • Following on from acts of vandalism and damage to the Scout Building in the Town Meadow it was agreed to remove the seat from that area and place it on the corner of Catchpole Walk near the post box and bus pick up point to be arranged by Cllr Roe.
  • It was agreed that in order to meet Health & Safety requirements there should be a weekly inspection of the play area and equipment by Brian Leeder, keeping a log of such inspections.
  • Quotes are to be sought for the asphalting of the complete car park by Cllr. Hill.
