The programme is as follows:
Official opening by The Right Honourable Lord Ron Duffy at 2.30pm
Father Christmas Grotto        3.15pm
Auction starts:        4.00pm
Grand Raffle Draw:        4.45pm

There is a Christmas Card design competition for children up to the age of twelve with prizes in four age groups.

The Auction itself is a major attraction, including braces of local pheasant, holly, and a wide range of goods under the hammer. The children are well catered for being able to visit Santa in his Grotto and the final raffle draw offers up a wide range of prizes.

If any one wishes to donate raffle prizes or items for the auction (no electrical goods) please bring them along in the morning.

Part of the proceeds from this fayre are shared out amongst the local clubs taking part and used to support local initiatives. For example, contributing towards Dickleburgh School’s Pantomime outing.

This a real village event so come along and enjoy the festive atmosphere.

Dickleburgh Village Society Old Film Night – November 9th 2007

Filed under: The Village Society — sean @ 1:37 pm

When the nights draw in during November, there is no better place to go than the Reading Room for the Old Fashioned Film Night. This year the picture was ‘Hobson’s Choice’, a 1954 black and white comedy, set in Salford, Lancashire. We lived through the tribulations of a comfortably set-in-his-ways father with three ready to marry daughters and relished in the clever manipulations of his eldest daughter, who was well ahead of the expected behaviour of a lady in those days. The cast included Charles Laughton , John Mills, Hugh Laurie and a very young Prunella Scales. An excellent evening was rounded off with a very tasty hot supper – special thanks to Vikki, Mary and Liz.  Particular thanks go to Tom for organising the whole evening and Reg Snowling for projecting the film.

Our next meeting will be the AGM on Monday, 14th January 2008 at 7.30pm in the Old Reading Room. Please make a special effort to attend this meeting as there will be changes and we need your ideas for the next year.

In the meantime we wish you all a Merry Christmas and a very Happy New Year.

RBL Quiz Night – In The Village Centre , Friday 2nd November

Filed under: Local Clubs — sean @ 1:47 pm

The annual challenge match between the women’s and men’s sections of the Dickleburgh branch took place with each section competing with three teams of four individuals who had been shanghaied into taking part! So 24 took on the task of trying to answer the questions set, presented and managed by branch Chairman Mick Logan. As always it was very competitive and the men scraped home by just 6 points, retaining the silver trophy for another year.

The Chairman, Master of Ceremonies, Question Master, Adjudicator and Judge, Mick Logan thanked everyone for getting involved and the ladies for providing refreshments by way of homemade goodies and welcome cups of tea and coffee. As an aside – the bar was open all evening as well to keep the brains lubricated!

As always it was an enjoyable evening with a great deal of laughter at some of the bizarre answers thought up by the competitors.

RBL Annual General Meeting – Thursday 25th October In The Village Centre Club Room

Filed under: Local Clubs — sean @ 1:41 pm

Over half of the membership of this thriving branch attended the AGM opened formally by Chairman, Michael Logan with the “Exaltation” followed by reading the minutes of the 2007 AGM with no matters arising.

At this point the President, Alasdair Wilson Brigadier/General OBE (Rtd.) intervened to inform the meeting that in the afternoon, whilst attending an inspection by the Queen of the Royal Engineers at Chatham, the Queen recalled her meeting with him twenty years earlier when he had escorted her on a visit to his regiment and asked what he was doing now retired. He mentioned that he was President of the Dickleburgh British Legion Branch and the Queen sent the branch her good wishes! Quite an afternoon!

Dickleburgh & Rushall Parish Council Meeting Held On 1st November 2007 In The Village Centre.

Filed under: Parish Council — sean @ 1:37 pm

Note: These are purely notes of the meeting, NOT formal minutes

PRESENT: Cllrs Clarkson (In the Chair) Cllrs Baker, Davy, Hill, Holden, Leeder, Logan, Roe and District Councillor Martin Wilby.

The meeting was also unexpectedly attended by two Police Community Support Officers, Gemma Rye and Jason Dack. In according a welcome to the two officers the Chair delayed the start of the formal Parish Council meeting in order for them to introduce themselves and provide information on their function, as follows:

It was intended that PCSO’s would in future attend ALL local Parish Council meetings in order to monitor events and take on board any issues needing their attention.

It appeared there is three levels of service available in the area according to the gravity of the situation with the 999 call the top of the list for urgent and serious crime in progress, a 0845 4564567 number for lesser crime and emergency call-outs and finally a mobile number 07825582883 for direct access to the PCSO on duty in any cases of actual or prospective Anti Social Behaviour which they will attend ASAP. This number is not for dealing with crime!

The Chair thanked the officers for this information and officially opened the Parish Council meeting at 7.25pm.
