Good Companions Visit Hunstanton – Wednesday 2nd July 2008

Filed under: Local Clubs — Brian Baker @ 10:48 am

Despite the dire weather forecast for the day after the “heatwave” the 37 Good Companions and friends enjoyed an excellent day in Hunstanton with only a few very light (hardly noticeable) showers during the visit. Some are great shoppers wherever they visit and they did their bit, and everyone (shoppers included) indulged with fish & chips, ice creams, cream teas and other seaside town attractions. As always, Gwen Woodrow deserves a big thank you for organising the day out and the en-coach raffle.
The next venture is a visit to Clacton on August 27th and anyone interested in going should contact Gwen. 77, Rectory Road or Kathy Leeder telephone 741669

RBLW, Christmas Dinner In Gorleston

Filed under: Local Clubs — sean @ 1:53 pm

Friday 14th December 2007

Organised by Joyce Hammond, Chairman of the Women’s Dickleburgh Branch who has been their Standard Bearer for 54 years and recently awarded a certificate for being a “poppy seller” for 50 years, thirty-eight members and friends attended this annual event in a banqueting hall at the Cliff Hotel, Gorleston.

Picked up in Dickleburgh by coach at 11.00am they enjoyed a three course meal served swiftly by a team of high speed waitresses with a choice of starters, Turkey or Beef Roast and a range of desserts with tea/coffee to finish.

Following the singing of a few carols, entertainment followed with a singer, dancing and an amusing quiz. Tea/coffee with mince pies being served leading up to departure at 5.00pm.

Opinion was that the food and entertainment was enjoyed to the extent that a booking for 2008 was made!

RBL Quiz Night – In The Village Centre , Friday 2nd November

Filed under: Local Clubs — sean @ 1:47 pm

The annual challenge match between the women’s and men’s sections of the Dickleburgh branch took place with each section competing with three teams of four individuals who had been shanghaied into taking part! So 24 took on the task of trying to answer the questions set, presented and managed by branch Chairman Mick Logan. As always it was very competitive and the men scraped home by just 6 points, retaining the silver trophy for another year.

The Chairman, Master of Ceremonies, Question Master, Adjudicator and Judge, Mick Logan thanked everyone for getting involved and the ladies for providing refreshments by way of homemade goodies and welcome cups of tea and coffee. As an aside – the bar was open all evening as well to keep the brains lubricated!

As always it was an enjoyable evening with a great deal of laughter at some of the bizarre answers thought up by the competitors.

Filed under: Local Clubs — sean @ 1:41 pm

Over half of the membership of this thriving branch attended the AGM opened formally by Chairman, Michael Logan with the “Exaltation” followed by reading the minutes of the 2007 AGM with no matters arising.

At this point the President, Alasdair Wilson Brigadier/General OBE (Rtd.) intervened to inform the meeting that in the afternoon, whilst attending an inspection by the Queen of the Royal Engineers at Chatham, the Queen recalled her meeting with him twenty years earlier when he had escorted her on a visit to his regiment and asked what he was doing now retired. He mentioned that he was President of the Dickleburgh British Legion Branch and the Queen sent the branch her good wishes! Quite an afternoon!
