“Turkey & Tinsel” At Gunton Hall

Filed under: Sports & Social Club — sean @ 1:37 pm

Dickleburgh & Rushall Sports & Social Club “Turkey & Tinsel” At Gunton Hall Friday 7th To Monday 10th December.

Following last years enjoyable visit to Gunton Hall (just north of Lowestoft) thirty-three members and friends of the Sports & Social Club went back to enjoy a wide range of entertainment and activities from 10am onwards daily following a hearty (help yourself) breakfast. Organised once more by Linda Mobbs, the majority travelled by coach whilst others drove the 30 miles to the resort.

Special mention must be made of Vera Baldry who against all comers won the Haggis Throwing contest and those of the club who quite willingly gave unexpected, even uninhibited, exhibitions of disco dancing as the evening wore on. The food was very good with the only real reservation being that the drinks were rather expensive especially compared with those in the Sports & Social Club where it is possible to save your membership fee when buying just a couple of drinks!

Everyone appeared to have thoroughly enjoyed themselves.

DRSSC “Race Night” At The Village Centre, Saturday September 22nd

Filed under: Sports & Social Club — sean @ 9:55 am

Organized by the Sports & Social Club this event attracted some 40 odd “punters” who enjoyed an evening of sometimes frenzied entertainment plus a “Ploughman’s buffet and of course the licensed bar.

This is a big event to manage and following some dramatic changes in the club management structure in the previous week extra weight fell onto the remaining committee members. Attendance was slightly lower than originally anticipated but the event still raised over £400, a proportion of which is to be donated to the NSPCC.

New Bar Arrangements – Dickleburgh & Rushall Sports & Social Club

Filed under: Village Events, Sports & Social Club — sean @ 8:56 am

Following the trials of opening the licensed bar early on Friday & Saturday evenings and measuring the response thereof it has been decided not to continue opening early on Saturday evenings, but to consolidate the early Friday opening at 5.30pm to 7.30pm with a provision that it will be an adults only period for club members with no children allowed. General opening will follow at 7.30pm through ‘til 11.30pm.

The club is now participating in a Pool League with matches taking place irregularly on Tuesday evenings so anyone interested should contact the club for dates etc.

At a committee meeting on Sunday 8th July it was decided that it was not practical to erect a form of external cover for smokers due primarily to the likelihood of vandalism. A “Race Night” is being planned for September 22nd and sponsors are being sought.  Entry into a Darts league is being organized to take place on Wednesday evenings.
